INDIANAPOLIS, IN – Founder and CEO of Virtuoso Education Consulting, LLC, Renae Azziz, Ed.S., NCSP, will address educators, administrators, and state education representatives at the 2015 LEA Significant Disproportionality Summit titled “Keys to Equity.” The two-day Local Educating Agencies (LEA) conference will be held June 11-12 and is presented on behalf of the Indiana Department of Education (IDOE).
The summit is designed especially for LEAs that are found noncompliant for any of the three Significant Disproportionality categories declared by the IDOE for seven specified racial/ethnic categories. The three areas include disability, placement/setting, and discipline. The IDOE has partnered with Virtuoso Education Consulting in the planning and implementation of the summit at which Azziz will be presenting. She will address needs identified by a root cause analysis and the implementation of evaluation methods to address those needs, in order to help these agencies get on the path of required action and compliance.
“According to a New York Law School Law Review article ‘African American Disproportionality in School Discipline,’ over-exposure to such exclusionary disciplines as school suspension or expulsion places racially and ethnically diverse students at increased risk for a range of negative outcomes, explains Azziz.
“Further, a 2010 professional research summary from Duke University suggests that school systems that incorporate positive, consistent, collaboratively regulated, and culturally sensitive school-wide practices are much more likely to have lower rates of suspension than schools without such practices.”
In this age of accountability in education, Virtuoso Education Consulting works frequently with clients on collecting, analyzing, and making decisions with data in efforts to improve student outcomes. The company provides expertise in training educators in various roles (from district level leadership to classroom teachers to support personnel) and follow-up coaching and implementation assistance.
